Mountain Survival Operations Course

This course was designed for individuals who spend time off the grid and want to be prepared for the unexpected. Students will meet in a formal classroom environment on the morning of training day one. Instructors will evaluate gear brought by the students and teach an extensive Land Navigation class using issued grid square protractors and pace count beads. Following the classroom instruction, students will be issued equipment and will convoy down the road to a remote cabin, where the adventure starts. Students will travel as group [with an instructor] to predetermined 10-digit MGRS coordinates. When they arrive, an instructor will be waiting for them, ready to teach one of the following topics;

Improvised Weapons • Survival Priorities • Wilderness First-Aid & Evacuation • Ropes, knots and rigging & simple mechanical advantage systems • Emergency Signaling • Animal Traps & Snares • River Crossing techniques • Skinning, Cleaning & Cooking Game • Various Fire Making Methods • Animal Tracking • Emergency Shelter Building and properly pitching a tent/shelter tarps • Basic GPS Operations • Converting LAT/LONG to MGRS coordinates • Water Purification Techniques • Cold Weather Woodland Operations

Course Overview:

Students will travel by foot with required equipment for the duration of the course. Movements will range from 100 meters to approximately 450 meters. Upon reaching each set of coordinates, they will be taught another skill utilizing the equipment they were issued. This course encompasses both tent camping, as well as sleeping in primitive shelters that students construct themselves. The course will conclude around lunchtime on Sunday, where each participant will receive their certificate of completion. This is a challenging (but fun) and professionally instructed program. We often see clients attend with their coworkers for “Team Building”, as well as many parent/child teams.

Children under 16 that are accompanied by their parent are FREE. This course will also benefit outdoorsmen, hunters who spend time off the grid and military/law enforcement professionals, who’s job demands operating in these rugged unforgiving environments. This course will challenge everyone.

The Medical components of our course will be under the direction of Dr. Eric C. Nager, MD of Optihealth Institute.
